Search Engine Optimization
Approximately 85% of all traffic generated to a Web Site originates from search engines.
Web Site’s that lack proper optimization will suffer significantly in Search Engine results.
What is Search Engine Optimization?
Search Engine Optimization or “SEO” is the process of incorporating “keywords” into various areas of a Web Site for indexing by the Search Engines it has been submitted to. That index is then used by the Search Engines when creating results for a browser’s search.
Keywords and phrases are incorporated throughout a Web Site, from obvious page titles and headings to invisible elements like META and ALT tags. The specific “word count” including the correct proportion of keywords and phrases found in every element of a Web Site is critical not only for gaining high rankings from Search Engines, but also to avoid being penalized or banned for “spamming.”
Search Engines and Keywords
Optimizing a Web Site requires, first and foremost, an accurate list of keywords and phrases. If this list is not accurate, it will actually hurt, even ruin, your chances of getting found by your audience.
How quickly can results be seen from SE Optimization?
The time it takes to achieve “organic listings” gained through SE Optimization varies widely from one Search Engine to another. One factor that impacts a Web Site’s ability to achieve organic listings is their age. A Web Site that has been “live,” is indexed with search engines, and is already receiving traffic might see results within a few weeks. A new Web Site that has received little or no traffic and has no history with Search Engines may take a year or more before substantial traffic can be generated through search engine optimization efforts alone.
